How to convert seconds to meter per second? ›

We know that 1 kilometer = 1000 meters and 1 hour = 3600 seconds. Now, 1 km/h can also be written as 1000/3600: 1 (kilometer/hour) = 1000/3600 (meters/seconds). So, this is the formula which is used to convert km/h to m/s. On simplifying 1000/3600 further, we get 5/18, which can also be used as the conversion factor.

To change from km/hr to m/s multiply by (1000m/1km) this will remove kilometers from the value and insert meters in its place. T hen multiply by (1hr/3600s) this will remove hours from the value and insert seconds in its place.

To calculate the speed in miles per hour, divide the distance covered by the time taken. Multiply the result by 3600 (the number of seconds in one hour) to convert the speed from miles per second to miles per hour.

Speed is the rate at which an object's position changes, measured in meters per second. The equation for speed is simple: distance divided by time. You take the distance traveled (for example 3 meters), and divide it by the time (three seconds) to get the speed (one meter per second).
